Our hamstrings act as decelerators, playing an important roll in downhill running or the dynamic nature of trail running.
You might also be surprised to know an efficient running stride will mean you don’t engage the hamstrings much UNTIL you have fatigued in other muscles such as your quads, glutes, calves and soleus.
When your other muscles have fatigued your body will call upon more help from your hamstrings.
